Head Coach Al Ahly Pitso Mosimane believes the “strongest team has lost” following a 0-2 loss to Wydad AC in the CAF Champions League final on Monday.

Zouhair el Moutaraji scored either side of the first half in front of more than 40,000 home fans at the Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca, something Mosimane and Al Ahly had previously opposed before taking the lead in the final.

The Moroccan Football Federation was the last to bid for the final after Senegal withdrew from the title fight, when the CAF handed the reins to the North African nation.

“Today’s best team is the loser,” Mosimane is quoted by IOL.

“We can only talk about winning and losing when playing on a neutral field and when both teams have the same number of fans.

“I think the people behind this decision are all happy today.”

However, Mosimane and his men had the opportunity to score and create a skirmish in front of the crowded Wydad crowd, but Percy Tau and Mohamed Sherif could not find the back of the net.

“Some people asked me about the lineup and the game plan when we lost,” Mosimane continued.

“I reminded them that we used the same formation when we beat Raja in the quarterfinals.

“Football is about scoring. Tau and Mohamed Sherif both missed opportunities.”

Mosimane will once again feature as his Al Ahly curators turn their focus to the Egyptian Cup for Sunday’s Round of 32 game against Massry Salloum.
