The Springboks on Monday congratulated Banyana Banyana on their historic achievement after winning the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) championship last weekend.
Banyana beat Morocco 2-1 last Saturday to claim the country’s first Wafcon trophy, 26 years after Bafana Bafana won its first in the country’s southern continent.
“Banyana Banyana, we just want to say congratulations for winning [Wafcon]. We’re so proud of you,” said Damian Willemse Back Gadget.
“All of us in Springbok camp, do well and enjoy the celebrations.”
Springbok women’s head coach Stanley Raubenheimer also congratulated his contemporary team Desiree Ellis in Banyana on this important milestone.

Banyana returns to South Africa from Morocco on Tuesday morning, where they will be greeted by Sports Minister Nathi Mthethwa and expected to be cheered by hundreds to thousands of South Africans.
